Dear Colleagues,
We would like to invite you to participate in an international comparative
study on engineering ethics education by completing the enclosed survey.
This is the 2nd survey following the pilot survey conducted in this May, if you have already responded to the pilot survey, you do not have torespond, thank you.
Under the support from the Japanese Society for the Promotion of
Science(JSPS) <Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research Grant Number 25282046>,
the Research Committee on Engineering Ethics of the Japanese Society for
Engineering Education and the Applied Ethics Center for Engineering and
Science of the Kanazawa Institute of Technology, are jointly conducting a
survey on the learning and educational objectives of engineering ethics
education.
The purposes of the survey are twofold:
1) to obtain a snap-shot picture of the state of engineering ethics
education
2) to receive comments and opinions on the validity and appropriateness of
the objectives of engineering ethics education which the committee has
identified through the empirical and analytical studies in Japan. (Please
see the attached Word document.)
The ultimate goal of the project is to propose a model syllabus for
engineering ethics education for a globalized world.
The survey is in Excel format and it takes about 20 minutes to fill out.
Please note that there are two sheets, background information and
objectives.
Some of the questions have the pull-down menu to answer. There are also
cells for additional comments.
If you are not involved in engineering ethics education, please ask your
colleagues who teach engineering ethics and/or related topics.
As the committee plans to present the results of the survey at the
International Workshop held on December 6, 2014, in Tokyo, it is truly
appreciated if you would send your survey back to Ms. Ayako
Maruyama < ayako-maruyama at neptune.kanazawa-it.ac.jp<mailto:ayako-maruyama at neptune.kanazawa-it.ac.jp>> via e-mail by Friday,
November 7, 2014.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at

Sincerely,
Jun Fudano, Ph.D.
