Subject: Theoretical Physics Seminar

Dear all,

This is a reminder that the next talk in the Theoretical Physics seminar series will take place today at 15:15. Unlike previous seminars, it will be held in the Eva von Bahr room (3rd floor Soliden). It is also possible to attend remotely over Zoom (zoom link: https://gu-se.zoom.us/j/64681043702). The speaker is Daniel Midvedt (University of Gothenburg). He will talk about:

Title: Physics of intracellular organization

Abstract: The basis for life is an accurate spatiotemporal organization of biomolecules. At the microscopic level, this organization rests upon fundamental physical principles. The past decade, there has been a joint thrust from physicists and biologists in trying to elucidate the principles underlying the organization of biomolecules within living cells. This effort has led to the discovery of a new class of organelles, called biomolecular condensates, which form as a result of intricate physical interactions between biomolecules, and which have been shown to play a major role in several diseases. In this talk, I will outline some of the efforts made in understanding the organizational principles underlying these condensates as an inspirational example of how interdisciplinary research can lead to unforeseen breakthroughs. I will also highlight some remaining questions, which will require a further joint effort of theoretical physicists, experimental physicists, and biologists to answer.

Please feel free to forward the invitation to anyone who might be interested to attend. We hope to see many of you at the seminar!

Best wishes,
Enrique, Johannes, and Bernhard
