Chalmers is continuously monitoring the development of the outbreak of the virus disease covid-19 and following recommendations from Swedish authorities, primarily the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Public Health Authority of Sweden. Considering these unusual circumstances, we encourage you to discuss with your supervisor, PI project leader, group leader or me if you can and should carry out your work from home. The laboratory work that is necessary still has to be carried out at Chalmers, but if we all make an attempt to work from home if possible, such laboratory work can then be carried out in an environment with reduced social interactions.

It is also important to void going to work if one has any symptoms of fever, coughing or a sour throat, even if mild. The Swedish national information telephone number for covid-19  is 113 13. Other healthcare advice is, as usual, available via 1177. Note, however, that these help centers are currently under heavy loads so please consider the urgency of your question before contacting them.

In summary, recommendations in the following areas have been updated following decisions by Chalmers central crisis management group and agreement with the president, Stefan Bengtsson:

  *   Chalmers is prepared for all activities ? education, research and utilisation, and operations support ? to continue, though most of the teaching and employees' daily work will be done remotely, from home. Employees are recommended to work from home as far as possible, in dialogue with your respective manager. This recommendation currently applies from 17 March ? 31 March. As usual, planning and coordination of the work is led by your manager.
  *   Chalmers will not permit any business travel internationally, and only operationally critical travel within Sweden. What is considered operationally critical is decided by the Head of Department.
  *   Study visits and other student trips arranged by Chalmers University of Technology are currently cancelled until 31 May.
  *   All physical conferences, meetings and visits with external participants, arranged by Chalmers University of Technology, should be rescheduled to digital format or cancelled until 31 May. The recommendation is also to carry out physical internal meetings digitally instead, as much as possible, until 31 May.
  *   Employees and students who have been abroad and returned after 14 March should work/study from home for 14 days.
  *   Employees and students who are traveling abroad for work or study, are asked to return to Sweden and to work or study from home for 14 days.
  *   Students on exchange studies abroad are asked to consult with Chalmers International Mobility Team, CIM<https://student.portal.chalmers.se/en/contactservice/Pages/Exchange-students.aspx> on whether to return to Sweden or not. Students who are on vessel-based placement should contact their internship coordinator.

  *   The Government and the Public Health Agency recommend (as of 17 March, 09.45h) that all universities and adult education facilities switch to remote teaching from the 18 March. Therefore, planning needs to be quickly redirected in order for Chalmers to be able to conduct all teaching for reading period 4 remotely. No educational activities will be conducted on campus.
  *   Chalmers has not closed its campuses. But our premises on campus are open only to students and employees with access cards (corresponding to weekend closures), until other information is received.
  *   Chalmers will, however, close its three libraries (the main library, Kuggen, and the architectural library) from Wednesday 18 March, and will offer instead online library service<http://www.lib.chalmers.se/en/>. The libraries? electronic information resources and support channels are not affected by the closures.

Jonatan Weidow has sent a mail to our PhD students and asked for information about how much time that can be allocated to teaching.

One result of the work on the project Economy in Balance at our Department is that we should all increase the teaching activity. One aim is that our PhD students should teach at least 15% (but not more than 20%) per year.

I therefore ask all our PhD student to fill in the questionnaire that Jonatan has sent after having consulted with you supervisor.

Dear all,

Even in strange times like this some things are familiar. It is time to plan for holidays.

Please notice:


  *   As employers we need to assure that employees make use of at least 20 days of vacation each year. If you have acquired less days than 20 this year you do not need to take unpaid vacation.


  *   You have the right to get your vacation as a continuous four week vacation during June- August (main vacation).



  *   If you during the calendar year have the right to more than 20 vacation days there is a possibility to save excess days for future use. Please note though that all acquired vacation is meant to be time off and that you cannot have more than 35 days saved at the end of each year. (30 days from January 1st, 2023).



  *   Check your vacation balance in Primula and make a plan with respect to your total amount of days. If you have a redundancy or questions regarding your vacation please contact me.



  *   Send your application in Primula at the latest April 30th.
