The webinar will be streamed via Zoom, Today at 14:00. I hope you can join us! The invited Speaker is Dr. Anders Broo, Director and Head of Data Science and Modeling, Pharmaceutical Sciences at AstraZeneca who will be talking about Quantum Chemistry on quantum computers an AstraZeneca view Abstract: Chemistry in the core of drug discovery and development in the Pharma industry. One big challenge is how to synthesize the active molecule in the most efficient way. Chemical reactions can be made very efficient if we optimize reaction conditions and have control over all possible side reactions. For each reaction we need to explore a large number of factors to find the best reaction path. We like to be able to explore all possible reaction paths virtually before we go out in the lab and perform the reaction. However, due to the complexity we can not evaluate all possibilities in a reasonable time. Here is where quantum computers potentially could provide a paradigm shift. We like to be able to perform highly accurate quantum chemistry calculation on reaction barriers for all possible combinations of conditions. I will outline the challenge and discuss how far away we are to be able to do use full calculations on a quantum computer. We hope you are all doing well in these difficult times. To keep ourselves updated on what research is going on within WACQT and to give opportunities for scientific discussions and interactions between PhD-students, postdocs and senior researchers, we plan to arrange a series with presentations during the spring by you, the WACQT PhD-students. We aim for four half-day meetings, online, where each one of you give a fifteen minutes long presentation (including questions) of yourself and your research project. To avoid collisions in your schedules we ask you already now to save the four dates 3/2, 3/3, 7/4 and 5/5, the mornings 9:00 - 12:00 the first Wednesday in each month. This will give nine presentations per half-day, in total 36 during the spring, equal to the number of PhD-students presently active within WACQT. Each half-day will be started by a PI who will give a short update on WACQT activities and research highlights. Later in the fall we will return with more information and also provide a Doodle where you can start to sign up for the presentation dates. Since this will be the only possibility to meet all of us during the spring, the presentation half days will be compulsory.
